Once again, October is “National Breast Cancer Awareness Month”. Approximately 235,000 cases of breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in the U. S. this year. For men, however, this is truly a good news, bad news issue.
Most men are not even aware that they can have breast cancer. But, approximately one percent of the cases are, in fact, among men. Unfortunately, due to the lack of awareness, breast cancer among men is normally not diagnosed until the more advanced stages.
So, as you remind the ladies in your life–wives, daughters, mothers, sisters, etc.–to check themselves, self-examine yourself from time to time too. Don’t be afraid to use that self-examination card that might already be hanging in your shower. And, if something seems strange, be sure to check with your primary physician.
