Go back a hundred and fifty years, and the Union Army almost lost the Civil War, that is, until it won it. Back when President John F. Kennedy challenged the Country, in 1961, to put a Man on the Moon, and return him safely to Earth within ten years, people thought that he was crazy. The linked article from the Huffington Post, points out that we have stumbled on many occasions, before we rallied. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bob-cesca/some-badly-needed-histori_b_4221076.html.
Early on, in the HuffPost article, there are pictures from the Hubble Telescope. The first one that was sent back from Space was blurry; but, once some “glitches” (remember that word?) were worked out, the transmitted photos were truly outstanding. (Be sure to click on the “Breathtaking Space Photography” link, just after the first blurry picture from the Hubble.) By now, I’m sure you know that I am referring to the efforts to condemn the Affordable Care Act, rather than fix it. But, the web site should not be the focus.
Most of the political blather that is focused on ACA is toward the word “ObamaCare”, rather than to the need for Health Care Insurance that tens of millions of Americans do not have. The GOP attacks the Name without actually discussing any of its provisions–some of which are already in force. Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) noted today, at a Senate Committee “Inquisition of Secretary Kathleen Sebelius (D-KS) that ACA provides for thousands of health care facilities throughout Rural America. Did you know that?
Yes, the Republican nay-sayers have proposed alternatives: private accounts, which would be “ObamaCare Light”; Health Savings Accounts which, so far, would only benefit those with “Cadillac Plans” and just going to Emergency Room. If Congress would actually work together and really try to solve the Health Care Insanity, it would truly benefit all Americans. It’s just too bad that Politics and Ideology have to get in the way.
