It is very important to spend some quality time with your Children each day, especially when they are young.  And, if you need help, the “Reading is Fun” website,, is a good place to start.  It breaks-down ideas for various age groups, to include 0-to-5, and so-on.  Hang-on, Henry, Mom and Dad will be getting after you pretty soon.  It offers ideas, en Espanol, and even suggests that reading Children’s Books can be of assistance for those Adults who are just learning English.  There are numerous links to other related web sites, as well.

As I noted in a previous Blog Post, besides reading, story-telling can also be fun–and educational.  Both books and stories, in my opinion, can enhance your Children’s cognitive skills.  Bed-time is probably not the best time to talk about your day (traffic jams and computers down) or theirs (forgot lunch or report cards); but, you can always make-up stories, sing songs, talk about what adventure the Family will go on this weekend, etc.  And, if you cannot sing well, remember that Children are very forgiving.

So, check the RIF web site, pass it on to Friends or Relatives who have Young Children, watch the PSA Commercials that will air on TV and, perhaps, donate to the Program.  Be sure to have books around the Home–even if they are borrowed from the Local Library. And, be sure to take your Children to Storybook Hour.  It’s a Great Habit!
