Nine year-old Hannah Robertson faced-off with Don Thompson, McDonald’s CEO, at its recent Annual Shareholders’ Meeting, http://www.medicaldaily.com/home/news/services/print.php?article_id=15912. She asked him why Mickey D lures children into eating junk food by offering them toys and using cartoon characters. Mr. Thompson told her that the company doesn’t sell junk food, and that it also offers fruits, salads and non-fat chocolate milk. He didn’t reveal , however, that its restaurants are pulling some of its healthy choices since sales are low. What do you go to McDonald’s for? Your kids?
I particularly liked the explanation, by Ana Veciana-Suarez, who’s column I read regularly in the Miami Herald; however, the link is from the Kansas City Star, http://www.kansascity.com/2013/06/11/v-print/4286207/ana-veciana-suarez-the-big-fat.html. Mrs Veciana-Suarez describes the results of Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock’s “Super-Size Me”, which recorded the changes to his body when he ate nothing but McDonald’s fare, three times a day, for 30 days. Another oh vey!
This linked article, from (The Daily) Mail-Online, http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2329817/Get-ready-McMega-potato-McDonalds-creates-1-400-calorie-fries-dish-half-recommended-daily-intake.html, will help direct you away from McDonald’s, if needed. The video shows how its potatoes are made, and advises of the coming new “McMega Potato”, with a 1,140 calorie serving of “Chips”. That’s what the Brits call them.
