Tomorrow night, President Barack Obama will give his State of the Union Address to Congress, as required by Law, but also to the rest of America. As usual, it will probably contain more unnecessary applause and a good bit of rhetoric. But, it does enable the President to stress the key points of his Agenda for the coming year.
Generally, the party that doesn’t have the Presidency has one of its own provide a Rebuttal to the SOTU Address. However, tomorrow night, there will be TWO Republican Rebuttals. Marco Rubio (R-FL) will perform the traditional chores, and Rand Paul (R-KY) has been tapped by the Tea “Party”. What’s going on?
At a Press Conference, Senator Paul denied that their were two factions–Traditional (Less Far “Right”) and Very Far to the “Right”. It sure looks to me like there really are factions within the “Republican” Party. Has the Tea Party started to secede? Why will they need two Rebuttals if they virtually agree on most things? Perhaps neither Faction can convince the other with regard to what each thinks is important. Hmmm…
This can start to look like the Republican Primaries last year, where the candidates merely made fun of each other. And, it did really look like the various Candidates enjoyed the “Frat Party Food Fight”. Jon Huntsman (R-UT), at least to me, was the only Candidate who acted like the Adult on the Stage, made any sense and was consistent throughout. To me, this year’s act reminds me of Abbott and Costello’s “Who’s on First” skit. But, then, Bud (Abbott) and Lou (Costello) knew what the were doing. Does Marco or Rand? I truly wonder.
