A Congressperson and her Challenger in the Republican Primary, in Murphreesboro, Tenn. have been battling over who is the “more opposed” to the Islamic Faith and the construction of the Islamic Center of Murphreesboro. “More opposed”, hmm…is that like being the “least in favor of” something? If I were from Tennessee, I think I would go to Court to renounce my Birthplace. Remember that Tennessee was also the setting for the “Famous” Scopes (Monkey) Trial in 1925.
This makes me think of the efforts, a year or so ago, to block the establishment of an Islamic Center in Walking Distance of the sit of the World Trade Center Tragedy on 9/11/01. Keep in mind that many Muslims died in the Twin Towers, along with everyone else and, perhaps, at the Pentagon and on Flight 93, which craswhed in Pennsylvania. Muslim-Americans are no less American than Catholics, Jews, Hindus, Buddhist, Protestants and even Atheists. What’s The Big Deal?
Also, once again, they are arguing over who will fight the hardest to prevent Sharia Law from circumventing our Laws and our Constitution. If you don’t believe this, check the story from the On-Line Reuters, “Tennessee Candidates Engage in Anti-Islam Contest”, http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/08/02/us-usa-campaign-tennessee-idUSBRE87104920120802.
Living in South Florida, we have a number of Muslims in our Community and they appear to be positive elements in our Society. They are certainly welcomed by all. Now, with regard to Sharia Law, I believe that the only evidence of it–ALTHOUGH I HAVE NEVER SEEN IT–might potentially be a Hillel Butcher Shop, or two. Is that any different than Kosher Butcher Shops? I really don’t care. Why should I? To each his or her own.
This whole Controversy, about Sharia Law, is something that crops up from time-to-time, perhaps especially in the South where there are more Evangelicals than the rest of the Country. I sure am glad that I live in Broward County (Ft. Lauderdale), Fla., which is the most “Northern” and Least Conservative (see, I did it too?) in Florida. All are welcome!
I noticed a few neighbors who are out there scraping the Tennessee Volunteers bumper stickers from their cars. Should I tell them that I was only kidding?
